T’was a dark and stormy night, and thunder rumbled over the historic limestone buildings in Oamaru’s old quarter. Steampunk aficionados roaming the streets in velvet gowns and striped shirts disappeared into the dusk with a swishing of tailcoats and a jangling of jewellery made from broken clocks as the Grand Old Hayride rolled into town. Tami Neilson, Delaney Davidson, Marlon Williams and Dave Khan yee-haa-ed the Victorian gloom away with their alt-country cheatin’ and lovin’, and brought some excitement back to the town that once been the centre of the gold rush boom.
