The Dirty Sweets

Local rock heroes Paul Edwards (he's the one on your right beckoning you closer) and Dee Taylor (she's the hot and shiny one) went through a few band names before they settled on The Dirty Sweets. First they were Leery, then Cousin It, and then Hot Oui.
"I still think that's a good name for a band," says Dee.
"Don't put that in, someone will steal it," Paul deadpans.
After a ten year break from music Paul had a bad run when he re-entered the rock n roll scene. "I got fired from lots of bands - demoted, back to my bedroom. They were all shit anyway." So Paul became a one-man song-writing factory, churned out enough songs to fill four albums, and got Dee on board. The rock chick from Hell, Dee turned out to be prime muso bait and before they knew it drummer Chris was also riding their groove train. Paul met bass powerhouse Doug (Manfred Manslaughter) at a party and “we fell in love with him immediately,” says Dee. The Dirty Sweets needed a lead guitar virtuoso to take their hip-shaking, metal-tinged rock to the next level. Luckily Paul “found Gavin on the side of the street, loitering, with nothing to do”. Turns out Gav was a session musician in Canada “for Alanis Morisette, or Celine Dion, or someone…” and had just the chops they needed.
If Paul and Dee were allowed to pick just one musical influence each, Dee’s would be “Joan Jett. I saw her on the telly when I was about ten. It was like a life-changing moment.” Paul would choose Cheap Trick. “Not Iggy Pop?” questions Dee. “I would say Iggy Pop but it’d be obvious” retorts Paul.
The Dirty Sweets claim to have many dirty secrets but they’re not going to reveal them, although they do confess to a pre-show ritual that consists of “giving each other the evils” and “praying that Paul’s gear doesn’t break down”. After further arm-twisting Paul admits that he likes disco, “it blows my mind man”.
“Should we describe our music?” asks Dee. “What do we sound like?”
“Dirty old rock n roll,” says Paul.
Plans are in the works for a video for the sexy, driving, hook-laden single ‘Good As Gone’. Check the video out below.
